Guest Lecture on BLOOMBERG Financial Database

Ms Shalini Agnihotri  began the talk with a brief introduction about the current scenario prevailing in the finance sector, and the emerging job roles today, such as Data analyst, Financial analyst etc.

Guest speaker touched upon as to how to achieve those dream jobs. She emphasised the role of different tools for data mining and analysis used in the Financial Sector today.  She explained thoroughly regarding different financial tools such as Capital IQ, Process IQ (only limited to Indian listed company) and BLOOMBERG. She told that Bloomberg is a huge data base which can be used to extract the data regarding different economies, commodities, equity, debt, foreign currencies etc.

Ms Agnihotri also covered as to how to operate the Bloomberg database, while explaining its features and advantages.  Bloomberg contains all the data where one can easily see the financials of all the listed companies in the world and that too in different currencies. One can download and save it for future purposes. For analysing the historical data and financials, one can also use different functions as well, such as ratios, comparative statements and balance sheets.

After this she started with  the process of quoting a share price under which she explained three major factors which must be kept in mind while predicting and forming decision whether to buy, hold or sell the share ;-

  1. Fundamental Analysis
  2. Technical Analysis
  3. Economic situation in marke

 She summed up the session with answering the queries of students and even asked students to try their hand on Bloomberg.  It was a fruitful session with great exposure.
